Kane Williamson shared his thoughts on the cricketers who could form the future Fab Four once the present senior players depart.
The Kiwi batter believes that Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Harry Brook, Rachin Ravindra, and Cameron Green have the potential to become future stars. Williamson believes these players are in contention since they are young and have lots of time to develop and establish themselves.
Kane Williamson also opened up on the growing preference towards franchise cricket over international cricket.
“Multi-format players who come to mind include Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rachin Ravindra, and Harry Brook. Also, Cam Green. These are all exceptional players who have produced fantastic performances in all genres. All are young, and their games are only increasing.” Williamson told Cricket Monthly.
“I guess the more you do it, the more lessons you learn. Finally, it provides an opportunity to have a better grasp of how you intend to proceed. And before you get exposed to it [at international level], you’re usually playing domestic cricket, which is typically played in the evenings,” the former New Zealand captain continued.
Williamson also discussed the players’ rising interest and tendency for franchise cricket. He believes that the red-ball tournament might be followed by the 50-over format, and then by T20 cricket, and that players may not need to adapt their game significantly in the near future. While Williamson expressed gratitude for growing up in the red ball era, he admitted that T20 cricket is now the dominant format.
“You have the red ball competition, then the one-day competition, and finally the T20 competition. So there aren’t many short crossovers that need you to modify your game and then return to [the prior] structure,” Williamson remarked.
