‘After Karun got out, their momentum broke’ – Karn Sharma on Mumbai Indians’ thrilling win over Delhi Capitals

Karn Sharma, a leg spinner for the Mumbai Indians, bowled a game-winning stint against the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025 Match 29. The 37-year-old veteran discussed the moments that turned the tide of the contest in MI’s favour and helped them recover after a difficult ball-playing stint in their starting defensive.

Many were taken aback when Karn Sharma entered the game as an Impact Player out of the blue against the Capitals, but the five-time champions made the right choice as he ultimately finished with a spell of 3/36 in his allotted four overs. The Uttar Pradesh cricketer’s outstanding spell earned him a Player of the Match award as well.

Despite taking three significant wickets throughout the innings, including Abhishek Porel, KL Rahul, and Tristan Stubbs, Karn has disclosed that it was Karun Nair’s wicket that turned the tide of the match in their favour and caused a barrage of wickets to fall.

I was only supposed to take wickets in the middle overs since, at the time, they were hitting 10–11 runs per over and every wicket was crucial given the rate they were batting. Naturally, KL Rahul is well-known, and in the previous game, he had completed the game for them. At the moment, however, every wicket was significant to us. Their momentum stopped as Karun got out. We swiftly took two or three wickets after that. “That altered the game,” Sharma said.

Additionally, the bowling all-rounder disclosed that he has played a lot at Kotla and is familiar with the Delhi surface and its bowler-friendly features. The bowlers found it difficult to hold the ball in the second innings due to the presence of some dew. Karn also claimed that he had profited from the new ball-changing regulation.

“I knew how the ball will act on this surface since I’ve played a lot in Delhi, but we weren’t prepared for dew because there wasn’t any in the first innings. When you replace the ball, you gain purchase from the wicket because the new ball has an upright seam. That was helpful to us,” the seasoned leggie said.
