On Sunday, the Delhi Capitals lost their opening game of the season to the Mumbai Indians at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, falling 12 runs short of the mark.
In 20 overs, the Mumbai Indians scored 205/5 after being asked to bat first. The Delhi Capitals were unable to chase the score despite Karun Nair’s decisive knock of 89 off 40 in reply.
“It’s a learning for all of us,” Karun Nair, who played his first game of the season, stated during the news conference after the game.
I regret that we were unable to win the game. We needed a set batter to remain till the end, therefore it was challenging for us in the end since we lost wickets frequently. However, once more, we may grow and learn from this. We’ll get ready for the upcoming game.”
The right-handed hitter discussed his strategy throughout the game, saying, “We lost an important player in Faf (du Plessis).” We have always been aware that there aren’t many of us sitting outside and that we must constantly be prepared. I was mentally prepared and clearly eager for the opportunity when it presented itself. That I was given the chance makes me very happy. I have to go out there and take advantage of that chance.”
“I believed I was ready to play in the IPL if given the chance. It was all about me waiting for my opportunity and getting ready the way I have throughout the season. I was doing what I could to get ready for the game,” he continued.
Nair responded, “It was about picking the right balls and playing to the areas that I wanted to play,” when questioned about his striking against Jasprit Bumrah. He is currently the world’s top bowler in cricket. I had to keep a close eye on where he was going to bowl because of this. However, I simply supported myself and the locations I wished to score in once again.
The Delhi Capitals are presently ranked second in the standings after four victories and one defeat. On Wednesday, April 16, they will play their sixth IPL 2025 match against the Rajasthan Royals at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
