On April 26, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) will play at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. This is their second meeting in the IPL 2025; the first time, the Knight Riders were thrashed by the PBKS, who held them to a total of just 112 runs.
As the game’s first innings came to an end, PBKS amassed a commanding 201 runs in their 20 overs.
The rain, however, cut short the activities, and the field was covered to keep the pitch safe. Thankfully, there is a breeze on the ground, which might assist push the clouds away, stop the rain sooner, and enable the game to start again soon.
What will happen if the match is washed out?
For a result, a minimum of five overs must be played in KKR’s innings. If that does not happen and the rain continues to disrupt play, the match will be abandoned, and both teams will share one point each. In the event of rain reducing the match to a five-over contest, KKR will be given a target of 61 runs to chase. The rain came in to play around 9:40 pm IST and as a result, there’s roughly an hour left before overs start getting reduced. Fans will be hoping that the rain stays away and they get to witness a full match.
Could both teams’ tournament be affected by a wash-out?
The home team, KKR, have won just three out of their eight matches so far in this year’s IPL and are currently placed seventh on the points table. They desperately need a win today to stay alive in the race for the playoffs, or else they will be risking their position further behind in the race for a top-four finish.
Meanwhile, PBKS have secured five wins from their eight games and are positioned 5th in the table. A victory here would boost their chances of reaching the playoffs, and will get close to the top four spots, whereas, a washout will only push them slightly without affecting their net run-rate (NRR).
