A contentious situation ensued after Virat Kohli was benched. Before leaving the field, Kohli vented his annoyance at the umpire. A high full-toss was used to make the verdict, even though Kohli was batting outside of his crease. Replays showed that, even with Kohli’s review, the ball’s trajectory was below the waist. Even when he went back to the dugout, Kohli was clearly not happy.
At Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on Kolkata Knight Riders. For their second victory of the 2024 campaign, the visitors are aiming for the lofty mark of 223. During RCB’s chase in the second over of the match, a remarkable moment occurred.
Prior to the game, KKR chose to bat first and amassed 222 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Shreyas Iyer and Philip Salt, two prominent batsmen, contributed significantly to this total with 50 and 48 runs, respectively. Ramandeep Singh and Andre Russell both made fast runs in the last few overs, adding 27 and 24, respectively, to boost KKR’s total. With two wickets apiece, Yash Dayal and Cameron Green stood out for the RCB.

Both captain Faf du Plessis and opener Virat Kohli left the chase early, having amassed 18 and 7 runs, respectively, as RCB lost two early wickets. With Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar at the crease, batting 53 and 27, respectively, RCB had amassed 100 runs in nine overs as of this writing.
As the game began, RCB decided to bowl first and made three changes to their starting lineup, bringing in Green, Siraj, and Karn Sharma. Due to the ground’s historical tendency to favor chasing, captain Faf du Plessis stated before the game that he preferred to chase. He admitted that the temperature had dropped the day before, even though he often preferred to bat first in hot weather. He was confident that RCB could regain momentum and make great use of their firepower, especially with important players back and in their batting lineup.

Virat Kohli, despite being in front of his crease and the ball’s trajectory indicating a possible dip, persisted in disputing the umpire’s call upon his dismissal. pic.twitter.com/Jcc7qcaKun

Honestly confused about the call. Looked a no ball on first look but Virat was guarded outside his crease. Can’t conclude – need to watch it again #KKRvRCB #IPL2024
