Ahead of the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) opening IPL 2025 game against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Visakhapatnam on Monday, March 24, KL Rahul has joined the team’s training camp. His availability for the match is unclear, though.
The captain of the Capitals, Axar Patel, stated that KL Rahul might not play in the team’s opening game of the season for personal reasons.
This could be related to the Karnataka batter spending time with family because he and his wife, Athiya Shetty, are set to have their first child.
“He joined the team, of course. Whether he will play or not is yet unknown. Regarding Rahul’s availability, Axar stated at the pre-game press conference, “At this time, we don’t know if he is available or not.”
Given all of the rumors that surfaced both before and after the association ended, cricket fans have been eager to watch KL Rahul play against his old team. In regards to Rahul’s batting position, DC’s new head coach Hemang Badani indicated that the public will have to “wait and watch” till Monday, when DC plays the LSG.
In IPL 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reinstated the use of saliva. Both Axar and Badani enthusiastically embraced the change. The restrictions were in the “right direction” to restore “the balance between bat and ball,” according to Badani. In an effort to combat the dew problem, Axar also praised the new regulation that adds a second fresh ball in the second innings of games.
These days, the IPL is all about the batsmen. It would be great to see if we could provide something for the bowlers. We can now permit saliva, and if there is something for the bowlers, it’s fantastic for the game as well. At the end, the bowlers can discover that reverse swing,” Axar stated.
“The dew effect is also present in the majority of IPL grounds. Thus, if the fresh ball [option] is available after the tenth over, the rules are sound and the bowlers benefit greatly. They may find it easier [to stop the runs] because they have something to do,” the skipper continued.
