Several Indian superstars, including KL Rahul, will play in the next season of the Indian Premier League. The Delhi Capitals will be represented by the wicketkeeper-batter. He was acquired by DC for INR 14 crore at the November 2024 super auction and was not included in the Lucknow Super Giants’ preparations for the 2025 Indian Premier League.
The seasoned campaigner acknowledged feeling nervous during the bidding process. He ascribed it to the unpredictable nature of the auction process, which is a dynamic that nearly determines a player’s future.
“The experience of the auction was nerve-racking. It’s never easy for a player to not know which team they will wind up on. Speaking on JioHotstar’s “Superstars,” Rahul said, “I’ve witnessed over the years how erratic auctions can be—there is no set pattern to how things turn out.”
“I have actively participated in the process of assembling a team over my three seasons as captain. I am aware of the pressure teams are under to put together a team. However, from the standpoint of a player, it’s even more difficult since your career is on the line. A player’s destiny may be shaped by the auction, or it may bring him unforeseen difficulties. He admitted, “I was definitely anxious, even a little nervous.”
KL Rahul even mentioned the franchise’s owner, who expressed his excitement about being a part of Parth Jindal’s establishment.
However, I also realized that this was the best course of action for my career. Though it didn’t last long because reality settles in quickly, there was some excitement as well. Being a part of the Delhi Capitals makes me very happy. The owner of the team, Parth Jindal, is a good buddy, and we have talked about a variety of topics outside of cricket. I’m excited to be on this team because I know how devoted he is to the game. We have a good team, and I’m excited for the upcoming season,” Rahul continued.
It appears to be a well-rounded side that covers the most of areas: Rahul Rahul went into further detail on the psychological difficulties of switching to a new IPL team.
“Joining a new franchise—possibly my fourth or fifth IPL team—will be a novel experience for me. I’m a little anxious as well as excited. Many questions come to mind as you enter a new team setting, including how the players will behave, how the owners will manage the squad, and how the supporters will react. Thus, it’s a range of feelings,” he noted.
Along with talking about how excited he is to work with players like Mitchell Starc, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav in the future, he also discussed the makeup of DC.
“The team appears to be well-balanced, with most areas covered, based on the squad and the way the management has assembled it. There’s a fantastic mix of young talent and seasoned players, and I can’t wait to play with and learn from some really talented young people. We have a strong team with guys like Mitchell Starc, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav, all of whom I have played with in the past. I’m eager for the IPL to start,” Rahul said in closing.
The IPL 2025 season is set to begin on Saturday, March 22. In the season’s opening matchup, DC will play Rahul’s old team, the Lucknow Super Giants.
