KL Rahul and Karun Nair, along with spinner Kuldeep Yadav, will represent India in the much-anticipated five-match Test series away from home beginning on June 20 against England.
Rahul, who had a successful IPL season with the bat for the Capitals, has thrown his support behind his teammate Nair, who is returning to the Indian side after an eight-year absence, and praised him for his efforts. “We began playing cricket as 11-year-old lads together and have continued on this trip ever since.
Both of us have experienced ups and downs. He got his shot, scored a triple hundred, and then had a difficult time for a variety of reasons.
But what has stuck out is how he has done over the last 2-3 years,” KL Rahul told our media team following the IPL 2025 season.
“It’s fantastic to see how he’s gotten back to basics. We discussed his time in the UK and his experience playing County cricket, as well as the problems and hurdles he faced. Having the determination to return to the Indian squad despite all of the obstacles is admirable. I hope both of us can continue to play for the Indian team for a long time,” he said.
Speaking about his own preparations, the right-handed batter stated, “I began my preparations for the England series immediately following the IPL. I also chatted with my coach about this task to prepare for it. Coming to England is always a challenge since they are a strong team, especially at home. It will be a challenge for all of us because we are a young team.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have already declared their retirement from Test cricket, and Rahul believes that not having the two legends in the dressing room will be a loss, but that it is an opportunity for the younger players to take the baton forward.
“Virat and Rohit have been mainstays of Indian cricket for the past decade or so, and their absence will be felt greatly. In my whole career, I have never stepped into a team without Virat or Rohit. Virat or Rohit have appeared in at least 50 of the Test matches I’ve played.
Walking into the changing room seems odd. But, of course, you must respect their decision. They have given their all for the country and will be remembered as Indian cricket legends forever. “But it’s time for the rest of us to step up,” he said.
The first Test between India and England will be held in Headingley, Leeds.
