Indian opener KL Rahul gets upset when speaking about his daughter, Evaarah, during the fourth Test between England and India at Old Trafford in Manchester. Rahul said it was difficult to leave his family behind to join the national group for the crucial Test series.
KL Rahul and his wife, actress Athiya Shetty, welcomed a daughter on March 24, 2025, during the IPL 2025 season.
The player took a two-day holiday before rejoining the Delhi Capitals (DC), and then flew to England in early June for a five-match Test series.
Rahul revealed that he had a difficult chat with his family before opting to leave his newborn daughter and play for India A in the warm-up matches prior to the main series.
“Yeah, this is a wonderful period in my life for my family. I’ve always adored children. I’ve desired children for a long time. So, this made myself and my family really pleased. We’re in a terrific spot. She’s a stunning young child. “It’s brought so much happiness into our lives,” Rahul told Cheteshwar Pujara on Sony Sports.

Rahul expressed gratitude towards his wife, and his family for their unwavering support during the England tour. He shared that they understood how important the series was for his professional career and stood by him through the emotional challenge of leaving his newborn daughter behind. The top-order batter, who scored an impressive 421 runs including two centuries in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, admitted that being away from his daughter has been quite tough.
“I have done a little bit (father duties), but unfortunately, two days after she was born, I had to go play the IPL game. And I tried in whatever breaks we got during the IPL to go back for a couple of days and then finish the IPL. It was really hard to take that decision to come here and play that India A game as well because I had not spent any time with her and I knew when I came here, I won’t see her for another two months,” Rahul said.
Rahul revealed that he frequently checks the baby monitor to watch over his daughter, ensuring he does not miss out on precious moments as she grows.
“So, I came here. So, I haven’t seen her and I just keep seeing her pictures and I’m always on the baby camera. Making sure I don’t miss anything or any part of her growth. So, it’s a difficult thing to do when you’re traveling and playing and you miss each day. It’s not seeing her,” he concluded.
