The Chennai Super Kings suffered a crushing loss to the Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, drawing harsh criticism from both supporters and analysts. KKR won the toss and chose to bowl first, which led to the defeat at Chepauk. At the end of 20 overs, the CSK batting team had scored 103 for nine wickets, their lowest-ever total at the ground. Krishnamachari Srikkanth, a former cricket player, thought the batting looked terrible as well.
After losing a few wickets in the process, KKR managed to chase down the goal in just 10.1 overs and move up to third place in the standings. According to Srikkanth, KKR outperformed CSK at home, and the latter team is solely relying on nostalgia for the past when more improvement is needed in the present. The former national selector also suggested that since the top order hasn’t performed well, the team try to bring in someone like Prithvi Shaw.

There are concerns for Dhoni and company.
Many people thought that the five-time champions would turn things around after MS Dhoni was handed the captaincy, but they were unable to resume their winning ways. They had already suffered defeats to the Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru this season, so this was actually their worst defeat to date. Their current standing in the IPL 2025 Points Table is seventh.
The matchup between Dhoni and the Lucknow Super Giants is currently scheduled on April 14 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium. The MS Dhoni-led team must win nearly every game from here on in order to advance to the playoffs.
