In Qualifier 1 at Chepauk, the Chennai Super Kings breezed past the defending champion Gujarat Titans to advance to their eleventh IPL final. MS Dhoni, the master tactician for CSK, orchestrated the Titans’ defeat to perfection. Following the victory, the legendary captain once again hinted about his future, stating that he has sufficient time to contemplate next season’s IPL. Despite the fact that the former Indian captain has not made a final decision regarding his retirement, a sizable portion of Indian fans believe that this may be the recurrent winner’s final tournament. The 41-year-old disclosed in his post-match remarks that he will consider retirement after the conclusion of the IPL.
Former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth stated that Dhoni’s physical condition will determine his participation in next year’s tournament, in response to his post-match comments. Even though Dhoni does not bat for a particularly lengthy time in the middle, the former World Cup champion believes that leading the team also takes its toll on his body.
“He has left all options on the table. He is keeping us on our toes. He stated, “I could be a player or a coach.” It all depends on his physical condition. However, you must obviously give it to him. He is 41 years old, and he must run, exercise, and get ready every day. Captaincy has a negative impact on him. He stated it very accurately. I cannot fault him at all.
“Despite all of this, he has batted exceptionally well this season,” Krishnamachari Srikkanth told Star Sports.
Once you consider retirement, you are already retired. Matthew Hayden
Former Australian opener and former CSK teammate of Dhoni, Matthew Hayden, disclosed the piece of advice he received from cricket legend Steve Waugh during his playing career. Hayden believes that once Dhoni considers his retirement, the next nine months leading up to the next IPL season will be difficult for him.
Steve Waugh once told me, ‘once you think about retirement, you’re retired.'” That is how difficult it can be. “Those nine months were very, very long,” Hayden said.
