The secret to Kuldeep Yadav success is technical improvement

The five-wicket haul by Kuldeep Yadav’s was expected. In the rain-affected Super Four game against India in Colombo, Pakistan learned the hard way that he still has the old-school dip, drift, and turn that made him so infamous with his debut.

After having knee surgery, I have been playing regularly for the past 1.5 years. My warm-up has been a little too straight. The way I approach the crease is good, and although my bowling hand may have previously fallen off frequently, it is now under control and is now looking more towards the batsman, as Kuldeep Yadav’s described after the game.

“At the same time, my spin and drift are still present, and my pace has increased. This is why it’s benefiting me. I’ve been obsessing for a while now over regularly hitting those nice distances since it increases your chances of getting wickets.

Kuldeep Yadav‘s continued, “(Am) bowling a bit more aggressively, hitting the stumps every time, and that’s definitely helping me a lot.

Kuldeep Yadav journey towards atonement started with a “frustrating” period of recuperation following knee surgery. “My post-surgery experience was incredibly frustrating. I was out for five months,” Kuldeep remembered, making a reference to the difficulties he had at the time.

“It did not occur overnight. I needed some time to perfect it. Although several people had recommended it, I also didn’t want to lose my ability to zip, dip, and drift. When I finished my three months of rehabilitation following the surgery, I understood that I needed to do something about it.

“Whatever you intend, don’t put more weight on your knee, my NCA physiotherapist Ashish Kaushik advised me. In light of it, I made an effort to bowl more quickly and started doing so during the practise games in Kanpur. It was challenging for the hitters to choose me. I started doing the same in international games after being chosen for the India team. I found it to be really challenging at first since my rhythm kept slipping. In the IPL, I was having trouble as well. After the procedure, it ultimately took me six to seven months to regain my rhythm, he claims.

The outcomes are astounding. Kuldeep’s tenacity and determination paid off precisely when India needed him the most, in the run-up to a World Cup at home. I’m quite glad right now, he beamingly said. “The past 1.5 years have been incredible for me. I’ve been bowling good lately. I don’t give the starting XI much thought; I’m just having fun bowling.

However, it’s not just about your own accomplishment; it’s also about helping the team. Every morning when I first wake up, all I can think is, “Okay, whenever I get the chance, I will stick to what I have. Throughout the IPL and the preceding series, I have been improving my length since, for any spinner, that is the most important factor.

Right now, I’m simply loving it,” Kuldeep Yadav remarked.

“When I first started playing international cricket, I simply used to bowl at my natural length, but as I’ve gained more experience, I’ve learned to anticipate the batsman’s intentions and adjust my delivery appropriately. You anticipate the batsman will play big shots when the target is large, so you need to be prepared. It enables you to bowl as planned.

According to Kuldeep, he will treasure this five-wicket haul for a very long time. “When you pick up five wickets against a big team, it really boosts your morale,” Kuldeep Yadav said. “I will always treasure this fifer against Pakistan when I retire.”
