One of the world’s most sought-after events has been the Los Angeles Olympics. The 2028 version of the big event will also feature cricket, and while the organisers of the LA28 Olympics search for a suitable location for the cricket matches, New York has emerged as a top contender.
Because of the 12-hour and 30-minute time difference between India and Los Angeles, a prime-time game that starts at 8 PM in LA would be televised during breakfast in India. But given that India and New York are separated by roughly nine hours and thirty minutes, the Indian audience could find this more appropriate.
Additionally, Indian fans would watch the game at around 8 PM if it started at 10:30–11:00 AM on the East Coast, like in New York. During the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA, the International Cricket Council (ICC) used a similar strategy. The organisers have also been having trouble finding a suitable location for the matches. Modular venues used for the 2024 T20 World Cup matches were demolished immediately following the competition’s end in the USA.
“Cricket has a distinct venue challenge in contrast to the other emerging sports. Although there aren’t many, if any, suitable cricket sites in California, LA28 has made it clear that it intends to use existing venues to keep expenses low. or elsewhere in the nation. A crucial component of cricket’s strategy to join LA28 was the Indian market.
In the USA, cricket matches can be played at a variety of locations.
It’s interesting to note that this will not be the first time a cricket match is played outside of the host city if it is played in New York.
