Steven Croft has been announced as Lancashire’s new head coach following a fruitful stint in the interim position.
Following Dale Benkenstein’s departure in May, Croft took over. Despite losing all of their games in the first half of the County Championship season, Lancashire came back to finish fifth in Division Two and advance to the T20 Blast Finals Day.
“It means so much to have the honour of being named head coach of this great club,” Croft stated. From my early days as a player in the academy to my time as team captain and now into this position off the field, Lancashire has played a significant role in my life.
“The guys’ response last season made me really proud, and I’m looking forward to what lies ahead. I think there is still a lot more to come since we have a talented, motivated team that is passionate about representing the Red Rose.
“My focus now is on building on the second half of last season’s progress, helping each player improve, and bring success back to the club for our members and supporters at Emirates Old Trafford.”
Croft, 41, played for Lancashire in their most recent Championship victory in 2011. He played for the team more than 600 times until retiring in 2023.
“We are delighted that Steven has accepted the position permanently after making such a strong impression this summer,” stated Mark Chilton, director of cricket performance for Lancashire.
“Steven showed exceptional leadership throughout this summer, stepping in during a difficult time in May. His love for Lancashire cricket, his familiarity with the game, and his ability to relate to players made him the best candidate.
“He will take a hands-on role in the leading of day-to-day coaching of the first team and will be supported by a restructured cricket department – including assistant coach Will Porterfield – with further appointments to follow.”
