The current Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 captain, Laura Wolvaardt, believes her team has what it takes to go to the semi-finals. She intends to concentrate on one game at a time, though. against Friday, October 4, South Africa will take against the West Indies at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium to kick off their campaign.
In front of their home supporters, the Proteas advanced to the finals of the previous Women’s T20 World Cup last year. South Africa had made it to their first-ever World Cup final in any format, thus this was a huge accomplishment. They were highly praised for their efforts during the competition, but they ultimately fell to Australia in the finals.
This year, the Rainbow Nation is placed in Group B among nations like Bangladesh, England, Scotland, and the West Indies.
According to Laura Wolvaardt, her team’s primary goal is to get to the main event’s knockout stage.
T20 cricket is, in my opinion, such a fickle format. We’re just trying to take things one game at a time, but obviously last year was fantastic. Clearly a very tough pool, but if we can advance to the semi-finals, anything is possible,” Wolvaardt remarked, as cited by the ICC.
Every game you play and every practice you put in is aimed towards winning the World Cup: Hayley Matthews
Hayley Matthews, the captain of the West Indies and a lucky person, stated that her squad has been getting ready for the World Cup for a very long period. The Caribbean team did not make it to the knockout stages in 2023. They would like to move forward from the last disaster and enter the UAE with renewed vigour.
“Every series you play, every training session you have is towards that goal of a World Cup, so definitely is a long process, and I think this is one that as a West Indies team, we’ve had in our sights for a very long time,” Hayley Matthews, the captain of the West Indies, said.
