The weather gods stopped the opening ODI in the women’s ODI series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, which did not start well. On Friday, March 7, the second ODI will take place, and it appears that the Kiwi team’s injury problems are still ongoing.
Now on the injury list is Lauren Down, a gifted hitter from New Zealand.
Bella James, who was also sidelined because of a quadricep strain in her right leg, was replaced by the 29-year-old middle order hitter, who had a back ailment on the first morning of the series opener. Izzy Sharp, an uncapped batsman and wicketkeeper, has been selected to take Down’s spot. The young player, who was originally just involved in the T20I series, will now be going to Nelson for the final two ODIs.
Ben Sawyer, the head coach of the New Zealand Women, also concurred, saying he was disappointed that Down was unable to play in the series against Sri Lanka Women. Sharp would undoubtedly be welcomed by his team, which he described as a nice opportunity for her. He also highlighted the positive aspects of some new players being given the chance to serve the nation.
We wish Lauren a quick recovery, but we’re all very unhappy that she won’t be playing in the series. Unfortunately, injuries are a part of the game. Izzy will have a great opportunity to join the Nelson team for these final two games, and we are excited to have her join us. Sawyer.
Rowe will miss the third ODI because of a friend’s wedding.
There are other uncapped replacements in the side besides Izzy Sharp. Additionally, Emma Black will be replacing Hannah Rowe. As intriguing as it sounds, Rowe will be missing the third ODI to attend her Central Hinds colleague Mikaela Greig’s wedding as her “Maid of Honour.” Sophie Devine, Hayley Jensen, and Molly Penfold are the other well-known figures who have been disqualified prior to this season.
