Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain if Bangladesh wins the Player of the Match award for his incredible knock. He starts by saying that they knew they would find it difficult with the new ball. Informs he took his time and backed his skill, once the dew came in play the ball started to sit up nicely. Praises the way Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed came back at the later stage. Adds that the experience of Mahmudullah and Rahim help them a lot as a unit. Hopes that the latter continues in the similar fashion.
Kusal Mendis, tha captain of Sri Lanka starts by praising the opening pair, Nissanka and Fernando who set the tone for their innings. Adds that the middle order struggled and hence they couldn't put up a good score. Informs that they bowled well initially but the dew came in and it became difficult to control the ball later on.
Pramod Madushan and Dilshan Madushanka were absolutely brilliant with the new ball but that was about it. They managed to get early wickets but as the game progressed, as the dew came in, everything kept getting tough for the bowlers. The spinners weren't that effective and that proved to be the downfall for the visitors. However, we believe they were at least 20 runs short of what would have been a competitive total. They were just below par in this game.
What an outstanding chase and what an outstanding innings from Shanto! Take a bow, his side needed a hero and he has led from the front. Chasing a moderate score, Bangladesh were in all sorts at 3 down for not a lot. Shanto and Mahmudullah then steadied the ship. Mahmudullah fell with Bangladesh still needing over 150 but then came the match winning stand. A 150-plus run partnership between Rahim and Shanto. Shanto scored a brilliant ton and Rahim a very good fifty. A partnership and an innings to remember. Top stuff.
