Right then, that concludes the first day of cricketing action at the Commonwealth Games 2022! The action continues on Saturday, 30th of July as we will be back with another double-header. Firstly, New Zealand Women will take on South Africa Women at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT) and then it will be England Women going up against Sri Lanka Women at 10.30 pm IST (5 pm GMT). Our build-up for both the games will begin in advance. So do join us for the same. Till then, goodbye and cheers!
Earlier in the day, courtesy of Hayley Matthews and Kycia Knight, Barbados women got to a very competitive score as they paced their knocks to perfection. Pakistan Women did bowl well, especially their spinners and had they batted with more intent in the first 10 overs, things could have been different. Pakistan Women need to get their batting order right as they have two big games coming up against India and Australia.
For Barbados, most of their bowlers had a good outing. The likes of Hayley, Shakera Selman and even Dottin did really well. Aaliyah Alleyne and Shamilia Connell were good too but they took a beating towards the end. However, the damage done by them at the start meant they could afford to go for a few towards the end. Hayley Matthews was the star as along with bowling well, she was brilliant in the field as well and led from the front to take her side to an important victory here.
Pakistan Women just did not get off the blocks and also kept losing wickets. By the time they were in the final 10, the run rate needed was over 10. Nida Dar and Aliya Riaz initially had to save their wicket and take it deep but that saw the rate needed touching around 13. Dar though then stepped on the gas and she did get the Barbados team worried, however, she just did not get the support she wanted from Aliya and it was too much of an ask from her. Still though a top effort from Dar and maybe if the top order would have contributed, it could have been different.
That partnership between Aliya and Dar really got Barbados worrying but they held their nerve and came out on top in the end! Things though could have been so different had they got off to a better start. Sadly for Pakistan Women that was not the case and they have fallen short in the end.

However, she gets the top edge and the ball goes in the air towards point. Hayley Matthews takes the catch and roars in delight as Barbados Women win their opening game of this tournament.

OUT! CAUGHT! This over has probably sealed the deal for Barbados Women! A length delivery on off. Riaz dances down the track and goes for a big heave. However, she only gets the bottom of her blade and the ball goes straight into the hands of Shamilia Connell at mid off. 27 needed now from last ball as Ayesha Naseem walks out to the middle.
