That is it from here! The next match is between Kolkata and Hyderabad in Abu Dhabi on 26th September, 2020. Join us at 1800 local (1400 GMT). Till then, take care and cheers!
Prithvi Shaw is named the Man of the Match. He starts by saying that he is happy with his performance. Further mentions that, he will like to see the highlights from his today's knock once he gets back to the hotel. Mentions that he decided to play more ground shots. Ends by saying it was a nice wicket to bat on.
Shreyas Iyer, the Delhi skipper, says that he is happy with his performance. Further adds that the players did well, to catch some, but due to the light, they could not hold onto some of the chances. Mentions that during the team meetings, they decided how to go about their batting. Iyer also says that Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan gave them a good start. Mentions Rabada bowled well and kept the lengths right. Iyer also says that it is important to stick together as a team and they are not afraid of the failures.
Kagiso Rabada is down for an interview. He starts by saying that he is happy with his performance. Adds that he tried to keep it tight and that helped him. He says that as far as the team is winning and he keeps on contributing then it is a great thing. Praises the spinners for bowling brilliantly as he tells that there was not much dew out there which helped their spinners grip the ball well. Applauds Amit Mishra's efforts in the middle overs as he says that his economical bowling helped them bowl brilliantly in the death. Further praises his South African mate Anrich Nortje. Ends by saying that he is getting used to bowling that one over spells as he smiles and tells that he has no option but to bowl whenever he is asked to bowl by his skipper, Shreyas Iyer.
MS Dhoni, the Chennai skipper, says that they are disappointed with their performance. Adds that the batsmen need to apply themselves. Mentions they need to get a good start as it is crucial for the run chase. Dhoni also says that the break in the next 7 days is the best chance for them to figure out. Mentions that they are one bowler short. Ends by saying that Rayudu might play in the next match.
After being put in to bat by Chennai, Delhi started slowly and gradually built on the momentum as they raced to 94 in 11 overs. Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan soon opened up after the Powerplay and started playing their natural game. Dhawan though departed attempting an innovative shot, though Shaw continued as he got to his fifty. He was dismissed courtesy the quick glovework from MS Dhoni but his dismissal though did not rob Delhi away of the momentum as their skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant combined to stitch a 58-run stand which powered them to an above-par total of 175. Chennai has been clearly struggling with their bowling attack, be it their pacers or spinners, they have struggled like a lot. Jadeja being carted has disrupted MS Dhoni's plans. Chahar who is so good at the start had an off day and once again Curran, and Hazlewood who replaced Ngidi for this game were the only positives for MSD in the bowling department from this game.
Delhi were just inspirational today with the ball. Kagiso Rabada led the attack brilliantly, and he was well supported by Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje and Amit Mishra. Avesh Khan though bowled with a lot of pace but was a bit wayward in his lines and lengths as he conceded 42 off his 4 overs. Though, they were a bit sloppy in the field as Hetmyer dropped a couple of chances of Faf du Plessis and Prithvi Shaw putting down a sitter off Shane Watson early on. In the end, Rabada and his South African teammate Anrich Nortje took three and two respectively as Axar had one to his name. Amit Mishra though was not into the wickets column but was very economical. It was a complete performance with the ball for Delhi as they rejoice to beat Chennai which has not happen very often in the Indian T20 League history.
Chasing 176 for the win, Chennai began cautiously but lack of form from their openers to give them the brisk start cost them the game. Lack of substantial contributions from Murali Vijay and Shane Watson put a lot of pressure on the fragile middle order. Faf being the lone warrior, tried hard enough to keep his team in the hunt, but the mounting run-rate consumed him. Dhoni once again came to bat when Chennai had the game lost from their grasp. In the end, the Men in Yellow lost another one. Now, they stand at one win from three games. Injury to DJ Bravo and Ambati Rayudu is clearly hurting Chennai here.
Whoa! The young mind has beaten the experienced mind. In the battle of generations, the younger gen wins it. What a game from Delhi. They win 2 off 2. Great captaincy skills from Shreyas Iyer. MS Dhoni and his team would need to rework on their mindset during run chases as their strategy to take the game deep to the end cost them two games dearly.
