Joburg Super Kings beat Durban's Super Giants by 28 runs

Right then, that wraps up an entertaining double-header day, and after 8 games, the Joburg Super Kings remain the only unbeaten team in the competition. Earlier in the day, in Centurion, the Pretoria Capitals breezed past the defending champions to earn a bonus point and hand the Sunrisers Eastern Cape their third successive defeat. Following that, in Durban, the home side, Durban's Super Giants, tasted defeat against the Joburg Super Kings. Up next, the 2025 SA20 League heads to the picturesque Boland Park in Paarl, where the Paarl Royals will host the league leaders, MI Cape Town on Wednesday, 15th January. The game will start at 9 pm IST (3.30 pm GMT), but as always, you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Faf du Plessis, the Joburg Super Kings' captain, says that when they came here last time the pitch was as dry as this time and tacky. Adds that the spinners were always in the game. Tells that they were thinking of being around 160 to be in the game and the last two sixes by Gerald Coetzee helped them go into the bowling effort with momentum. Mentions that if you had asked before the game about Tahir and Shamsi not bowling their full quota, he would have laughed but Donovan Ferreira bowled really well. Feels that the competition is very tough and if you have a good all-rounder in the team, it helps. Mentions that he is proud of the performances of the team and all the guys who stood up today. Concludes that the conditions will always be tricky but they are prepared for everything that will come their way.
The skipper of Durban's Super Giants, Keshav Maharaj is up for a quick chat. He says they did bowl in the right areas but gave away 15-20 runs more on this track. Mentions that unfortunately, they lost their way in the last few overs but they will not think much about it and go back and look forward to the next game. Closes by saying the team did show character and there were a few positives which they'll work on.
Quinton de Kock is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH, albeit in a losing cause. He says that the track got difficult to bat on as the game progressed. Tells that he tried to play his shots but wasn’t timing them as well as he wanted. Adds that he tried to take the game deep but it was tough out there and couldn't take the team over the line.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
Earlier, Joburg opted to bat first, and despite the sluggish pitch, Devon Conway and Leus du Plooy formed a solid partnership after Faf du Plessis' early dismissal. However, neither could convert their starts into big scores, a pattern that continued through the middle overs. A late surge of 42 runs in the final three overs took them to 169, but the total could have been higher if one of the batters had capitalized on their start. Despite the conditions seemingly favouring him, Naveen-ul-Haq went for 52 from his 4 overs, while Durban's spinners dominated, with Prenelan Subrayen being the standout performer with 2 for 24 from his 4 overs.
However, Heinrich Klaasen and Quinton de Kock steadied the ship with a valuable partnership, keeping the chase on track for Durban. Their 48-run stand came to an end, and from there, it was a lone fight from QDK for Durban's Super Giants. It took some time for Tabraiz Shamsi to find his radar, but once he did, he struck twice in three balls to further derail the chase. QDK tried his best to farm the strike and kept the chase alive, but his departure was the final nail in the coffin for the Super Giants. Donovan Ferreira turned out to be the surprise package with impressive figures of 2 for 15 from his 4 overs, to go with his 19-ball 26 earlier with the bat.
Joburg Super Kings make it two from two! An impressive performance to defend a total that seemed a bit under par at the halfway mark. As for Durban's Super Giants, it was a story of Quinton de Kock versus the rest, as he battled valiantly while the other batters struggled to provide support in their chase. Durban lost both openers within the first 4 overs, but despite these setbacks, they managed to score 50 runs in the Powerplay. It turned into a real arm wrestle in the middle overs, as Donovan Ferreira's double strike dented the batting side.

OUT! THAT TOOK AN ETERNITY TO COME DOWN! David Wiese holds onto a skier. Short-pitched, around off, Naveen-ul-Haq clears the front leg, takes his eyes off it and goes for the pull. The ball was swirling over Wiese at the deep mid-wicket fence but he did well to lean slightly backward and hold onto this. Wiese after completing the catch gives a bit of a cold stare to the crowd behind him. Joburg Super Kings have won this game by 28 runs.

BUZZERS! Short-pitched around off, Noor Ahmad dabs this wide of the keeper for one. Jonny Bairstow picks it up and throws it towards the non-striker's end, but misses. Poor backup from mid on and the ball races away to the fence for four extras.

Back of a length around off, Naveen-ul-Haq dabs this through point for one.
Naveen-ul-Haq is the last man in for Durban, with the bonus point still up for grabs for Joburg Super Kings. The Super Giants need to surpass 135 to avoid handing over the bonus point.
OUT! THIS HAS TO BE THE GAME DONE AND DUSTED! Slower one, angling away from the batter, QDK goes with the pull, just checks it in the end and that was enough to lob the ball straight over the head of David Wiese inside the circle at mid off. QDK departs and with him the hopes of DSG as well. Let's not forget that Joburg Super Kings if they get the last wicket on 135 they'll get a bonus point.
