Smaran Ravichandran is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his superb ton. He says that his plan was to take the game deep and he is glad that it paid off. Tells that the wicket was really good to bat and it was about putting the pressure back on Vidarbha during the stand with Krishnan Shrijith. Adds that they always looked to bat with intent. Mentions that the role given by the team to him was to bat deep and he just followed that.
Karun Nair, the skipper of Vidarbha is the the PLAYER OF THE SERIES for his outstanding 779 runs in 8 innings this season. He thanks everybody who supported them and gives a special mention to his team and support staff for this good run. Adds that they gave away a few extra runs and in the chase they kept losing wickets which made it difficult towards the end and they will only learn from this game. Time for the presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Vidarbha won the toss and opted to bowl first. Devdutt Padikkal fell early, but Mayank Agarwal and KV Aneesh provided Karnataka with a steady start. However, both fell in quick succession, leaving the batting side at 67/3. Then came the game-changing 160-run partnership between Smaran Ravichandran and Krishnan Shrijith, which shifted the momentum. While Shrijith fell short of a century, Smaran reached the three-figure mark. Abhinav Manohar provided late fireworks, propelling Karnataka to a total of 348.
The mounting pressure eventually took its toll on Jitesh, and with the incoming batters largely untested throughout the tournament, they were thrust into the cauldron in the final. Shorey perished after bringing up his hundred, which was a massive blow to Vidarbha's chase. Harsh Dubey reignited their hopes, and with the way he was striking the ball, all he needed was someone to stay with him. It didn’t happen and Dubey was left to fight a lone battle, which eventually came to an end.
With a daunting target of 349 ahead, Dhruv Shorey led Vidarbha's chase from the front with his third straight hundred. While Yash Rathod and Karun Nair showed promise, their innings were cut short, leaving Shorey to steady the ship alongside Jitesh Sharma. At the 30-over mark, the chase was finely poised, with Vidarbha at 165/3 compared to Karnataka's 173/3 at the same stage. However, a lull in the middle overs caused the required rate to climb steeply.
KARNATAKA HAVE DONE IT! Mayank Agarwal and his men are the 2024/25 Vijay Hazare Trophy Champions. Fifth final and Karnataka continue their perfect run to clinch their fifth title. This victory takes Karnataka level with Tamil Nadu for the most Vijay Hazare Trophy titles. A heartbreak for Vidarbha, who had a dream run, winning eight games in a row to reach their first-ever Vijay Hazare Trophy final. However, they ran into a team that has been there and done that.
