And with that, we wrap up this rain-affected contest where Joburg Super Kings kicked off their campaign with a win, handing MI Cape Town their first loss of the season. Up next in SA20 2025, we have an exciting reverse fixture between Pretoria Capitals and Durban's Super Giants. If their first clash was any indication, we’re in for another nail-biter. That match is set to take place on Sunday, January 12th, at 1.30 PM GMT. Don’t forget to join us early for all the pre-match build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Faf du Plessis, the victorious skipper of Joburg Super Kings, is also the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his crucial knock. He says that it was a tricky wicket as there was movement for the bowlers in both innings. Adds that if the batters stand still on these types of wickets, it becomes easy for the bowlers to target. Mentions that they were excellent in the field and it was great to see his boys put their bodies on the line. Says that it was one of those knocks where it was nice to get his team to a wining start. Further adds that they could have bowled better in the last 3 overs and conceded an extra 20 runs. Ends by saying that having a good Powerplay during the chase helped them a lot.
Rashid Khan, the captain of MI Cape Town says that the toss was quite important, but it was still a good wicket to bat on. Mentions that they fought back well with the bat, but the weather is not something that is under anyone's control. Further mentions that the wicket was a bit tricky for the batters, especially under these conditions. Says that in the second innings, with the weather, it got quite hard for the bowling unit to grip the ball, especially the spinners. Concludes by saying that the team is well prepared before the first home game, and after a couple of bad years, they are confident in having a good season.
Presentation Time...
Earlier in the game, MI Cape Town, reeling at 75/6, managed to post a competitive total thanks to a brilliant 65-run partnership between George Linde and Delano Potgieter. While Matheesha Pathirana and Donovan Ferreira went wicketless, the rest of the bowlers chipped in with at least one wicket each, though they did leak runs in the death overs. Fortunately for Joburg Super Kings, those late runs didn’t hurt them, as they ultimately finished on the winning side.
Joburg Super Kings started their chase on a steady note despite the early loss of Devon Conway to Trent Boult. Faf du Plessis and Leus du Plooy came together and built a crucial partnership, keeping the scoreboard ticking. The game, however, was interrupted by rain at 5.2 overs, with JSK at 37/1 and ahead on the DLS calculations. After a lengthy delay, play resumed, and Kagiso Rabada created a moment of tension for the home side, claiming two wickets - Faf 30 (23) and Jonny Bairstow 14 (14), one of which involved a spectacular catch by Dewald Brevis. But it was an expensive over from Delano Potgieter, conceding 15 runs that tilted the scales. When the rain returned, JSK were six runs ahead, securing the two points.
BAD NEWS FOLKS! THE MATCH HAS BEEN CALLED OFF! Joburg Super Kings WIN BY 6 RUNS (DLS)! Not the way anyone wanted to see this game conclude, but Mother Nature had other ideas. A disappointing loss for MI Cape Town as they managed to make a game out of this but in the end, just did not have enough runs in the kitty.
Not good news for MI Cape Town! It has started to rain again and the umpires have called for the covers. Despite a good fightback from MI after the resumption, Joburg Super Kings are ahead on DLS by just 6 runs at the moment. Looking at the visuals and the big covers coming on, the chances of getting more action look a bit gloomy. Stay tuned for further updates.

Overpitched on middle stump. Wihan Lubbe jams down on the ball and it goes back towards the bowler.
Wihan Lubbe is the next man in.
OUT! BOWLED! Kagiso Rabada completely outfoxes Jonny Bairstow there. And that came out of nowhere. This one is bowled on a good length, on the off stump. A leg-cutter coming off the wicket. Jonny Bairstow looks to work it away towards the off side, instead completely misjudges the pace of the ball and the ball goes inches past the outside edge to clip the off bail. Rabada has the last laugh between the two. Joburg Super Kings are 3 down now, still needing 54 runs to win.
