Perth Scorchers beat Sydney Thunder by 17 runs

That ends the action from Saturday! Big Bash continues on Sunday, with the Sydney Sixers taking on the Brisbane Heat at the Carrara Oval. Join us then, on 10th January, 2021, for all the action from 6.15 pm local (0815 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
JHYE RICHARDSON HAS BEEN NAMED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH. Jhye says that it is very loud in the stadium but credits the fansĀ for coming to support. Is happy to see everyone hale and hearty. On his heroics in this game, Richardson says that it is good to have personal performances but is happier with the team winning. On beatingĀ the best team of the competition, Jhye puts it down to energy in the field, with everyone putting their 100 percent and subsequently helping the bowlers.
Earlier, Brendan Dogget's 4-fer put Sydney Thunder right on top but Ashton Turner and Colin Munro capitalized on the other overs. The Thunder lost the plot completely in the second half, conceding 118 in 10 overs. They get the Bash Boost, having scored more than Scorchers' 67 but the home side has jumped to 5th, courtesy those 3 points. Stay tuned for the presentation...
A word of praise for Sam Billings. He was the one who led Thunder's recovery. From 46/4, the recovery to 129/4 was excellent before Cutting fell. But then, all hell cut loose as Sam just took it on his own. He played like a man posessed, knowing perfectly well where to score and how to score. But in the end, he ran out of partners and it was too much to do for him.
Excellent bowling from the Scorchers. Everyone contributed, with Jhye Richardson leading the pack, taking 4 wickets. The fielding was outstanding as well, save aside for poor Liam Livingstone, who had a torrid evening. If you look closely at Thunder's batting, they could not quite make use of the platform laid down by Khawaja. It was a quickfire knock by the opener but the innings just fell apart. Just three batsmen reached double figures, which tells you a sad story.
A very close game. Perth started slowly, could not quite step it up in the middle overs, but then finished really well, thanks to the Power Surge. The Thunder, on the other hand, started with a bang, lost their way in the middle, then recovered through Cutting and Billings before losing their plot in the Power Surge. In the end, it was really that span of 2 overs which changed the game.
The table toppers have been defeated! Now we all understand why Glenn Maxwell felt the other day that Perth Scorchers are going to be the team to beat this season. They have proved it in this game.

That would have been another wicket! Yorker, outside off, Doggett digs it out to the off side. He sets off for the single but is sent back. Tye quickly gets across to his left and flicks an under-arm throw at the striker's end. Misses. Doggett was a goner.
