Without much doubt, Tom Rogers has been picked as the Player of the Match for his outstanding figures of 4-0-16-5. He says that he was really excited about this game in front of a massive crowd. Adds that the incident in the last over of their batting inning fired the team up a little and says the ball was moving a little, which helped him. Mentions that he just wanted to hit the right line and lengths and bowl with good pace which would allow him to take advantage of the longer boundaries. The game looked to be in a favor of the hosts as they put on a strong bowling performance led by their opening bowlers Trent Boult and Luke Wood who claimed two wickets each. All their bowlers were among the wickets as Nathan Coulter-Nile, Beau Webster, and Adam Zampa claimed one wicket each. Martin Guptill, Shaun Marsh, and Mackenzie Harvey were all dismissed on 32 but their contributions in hindsight seem to be quite valuable. Melbourne Renegades needed to come out with positive intent and be aggressive from the word go. Adam Zampa seemed to have done them a favor as Tom Rogers came out fired up claiming a wicket on his first legitimate delivery. He came back in his second over and knocked over two more batters before Will Sutherland added another wicket in his first over as well. The spinners were unable to take wickets in the middle overs but managed to tighten the screws on the scoring rate. Tom Rogers was brought back into the attack after the halfway interval and broke the partnership that seemed to be reaching dangerous proportions. The wicket allowed Mujeeb Ur Rahman to come into the attack and take two wickets on consecutive deliveries. Tom Rogers continued his dominating display as he took a wicket in every over to end up with a five-fer conceding just 16 runs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was outstanding as well as he gave away just 7 runs in his 4 overs along with the two wickets in his kitty to cap off a complete bowling performance.

The hosts got off to a miserable start as they lost Joe Clarke for a golden duck and Beau Webster and Thomas Rogers were dismissed in the same over soon after. When Marcus Stoinis was sent back to the shed, Melbourne Stars found themselves four down with just 18 runs on the board. A 39-run partnership between Hilton Cartwright and Nick Larkin seemed to steady the ship but the required run rate kept on rising as they looked to consolidate. The former’s wicket initiated yet another collapse as they lost 3 wickets for 12 runs. Nick Larkin played a few shots towards the end scoring an unbeaten 48 and helped pushed the team total beyond the 100-run mark but they were well short of the target.

What a remarkable comeback this has been from the Melbourne Renegades! Tom Rogers must have taken some serious offense to Adam Zampa trying to run him out at the non-striker’s end because he has wrecked the Melbourne Stars batting line-up apart. They have sealed a 33-run win against the odds as at the halfway stage it looked like they have posted an under-par total. This brings an end to their four-game losing streak and Melbourne Stars fail to get any sort of consistency as they succumb to their fifth loss of the season.
