When West Indies started the chase, they did not get off to a great start as they lost their openers when the score was under 50. Moseley also did not survive for long. Then came the big partnership between Bonner and Mayers. They stitched a solid 216-run stand to bring West Indies some hope in this chase. Bonners departed for 86 but Mayers kept on piling the runs and wanted to stay till the end. Bangladesh got a lead of 170 runs after bowling out West Indies for 259 in their first innings. Mominul Haque scored a hundred and his partnership with Liton Das was crucial for them in giving West Indies a target of 395. Cornwall and Jomel Warrican were the pick of the bowlers for West Indies as they took 6 wickets between them in that innings.
Coming to West Indies, Brathwatie was the highest scorer for them in their first innings where he made 76. Blackwood scored 68 but did not last longer. Mehidy Hasan was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts as he took 4 wickets. Taijul Islam supported him and took 2 wickets.
Earlier, Bangladesh had scored 430 runs in the first innings where Mehidy Hasan was the top-scorer for them in that innings. Shakib Al Hasan and Shadman Islam scored fifties but could not convert that into a ton. Jomel Warrican was the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies as he picked 4 wickets. Cornwall did not look that threatening as he took 2 wickets.
Kyle Mayers showed excellent grit and determination for West Indies to win this match for them. His shots were superb and his timing was excellent. He never got bogged down when wickets were falling in the final session today. He kept one end intact and kept on scoring the runs.
For Bangladesh, their bowlers toiled hard but could not get the crucial wickets. They could not dismiss Mayers who was looking solid out there. Nayeem Hasan and Mehidy Hasan tried their best. They broke the 216-run stand between Mayers and Bonner but after that they could not get wickets at regular intervals.
What a victory this has been for West Indies. Take a bow, Kyle Mayers! It was a fantastic innings from him on his debut Test. His partnership with Nkrumah Bonner set up the chase for them. Then when Bonner departed, Blackwood started well but perished early after playing a poor shot. Da Silva gave good support and almost sealed the chase for West Indies.
