After eight games, with six losses and two wins, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have never been in such a vulnerable situation. In IPL 2025, they were unable to defend a pitiful 176/5 and suffered a crushing nine-wicket defeat at the hands of the Mumbai Indians.
Following the defeat, CSK captain MS Dhoni stated that the five-time IPL champions must focus on each match individually. He also mentioned that if they don’t make it, they may have to begin looking new combinations for the upcoming season.
One game at a time, please. “If we don’t qualify, look at the combinations for the next season,” Dhoni disclosed during the post-match presentation.
Even though the team got off to a great start in the powerplay, with Ayush Mhatre smashing a 15-ball 32, Dhoni believed that they were woefully under par in the first innings, managing only 176.
“We were much below the mark. Dew was expected to arrive in the second half. We should have started our slog earlier since MI started their death bowling early and Bumrah is one of the top death bowlers in the world. “We ought to have capitalised and scored those runs,” Dhoni remarked.
He [Mhatre] made good shots and batted well. He said, “We haven’t seen him much, and I wanted to play his shots.”
Did their significant loss have anything to do with the circumstances? MS Dhoni thought differently.
A strange ball was holding on. Their spin was good. A par score was never ours. in the first six if you reveal too many. It didn’t seem to be developing well. We must acknowledge that we are successful because we play quality cricket. We don’t have to get too sentimental, though. We must assess our cricketing form and aim to score the appropriate number of runs. We are working to fill up the gaps, so a couple more catches will be beneficial,” he said.
