The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the hosts, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), faced off in a thrilling match in Match 30 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). With three balls remaining, the visitors chased down 167 and won by five wickets. At Lucknow’s home field, captain MS Dhoni chose to bowl first after winning the toss, and it was a wise move.
LSG finished their 20 overs with a respectable 166/7. With a calm 30 off 25 balls, Mitchell Marsh spearheaded the attack. Even though he lost wickets frequently, captain Rishabh Pant (63 off 49) contributed significant runs. LSG was unable to accelerate in the final overs thanks to Pathirana’s late strikes and Ravindra Jadeja’s disciplined performance (3-0-24-2).
Rachin Ravindra (37 off 22) and Shaik Rasheed (27 off 19) got off to an aggressive start, which drove Chennai’s pursuit. Shivam Dube, who scored 43 off 37 balls, was vital in the middle overs. After a rush of wickets, the game swung marginally in LSG’s favour, but the always dependable MS Dhoni reversed the trend once more. Dhoni arrived at a crucial juncture and used his signature composure to seal the victory by smashing an undefeated 26 off just 11 deliveries.
As the oldest player in IPL history to win Player of the Match, Dhoni was recognised for his game-winning appearance. With this hard-fought win, CSK moved up the points table thanks to his leadership and finishing skills.
