At the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, the Mumbai Indians (MI) lost to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by a score of 12 runs in an exciting match. It was the home team’s second victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Fans would have definitely liked the match after a while because it turned out to be a very entertaining event.
MI captain Hardik Pandya chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Despite giving the innings a strong start, Mitchell Marsh was removed. After being taken out, Aiden Markram persisted in attacking the MI bowlers. Important contributions were also made by David Miller and Ayush Badoni. But it was Hardik Pandya who changed the course of events by taking five wickets, destroying LSG’s middle order and keeping them from reaching a more impressive score.
MI’s chase got off to a bad start as the openers fell early. Young Naman Dhir, though, demonstrated why the franchise has faith in him. He helped MI overcome 17-2 by forming a vital 69-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav. First to be fired was Dhir, then SKY, leaving Tilak Varma and Pandya in charge.
MI needed 22 runs from six balls in the final over, which decided the outcome of the match. Mitchell Santner and Pandya were at the crease since Tilak Varma had retired due to injury. The MI captain failed to complete the chase, disappointing the squad and supporters even though he smashed a six off the opening delivery.

MI skipper Hardik Pandya claimed a five-wicket haul in the 16th game of the IPL, becoming the first captain in the tournament’s history to achieve this feat. It was an outstanding bowling performance, as he led by example and restricted LSG from scoring freely. However, he did prove a bit expensive, conceding 36 runs in his four overs.

3. Avesh Khan’s final clutch over
Chasing 22 runs in the final over with Hardik Pandya on strike is no easy task. But Avesh Khan executed it brilliantly. Captain Rishabh Pant entrusted him with the final over, and though Pandya started with a six, Avesh held his nerve. He conceded just three runs in the next five balls, securing LSG’s second win of the season.
