At the Wankhede Stadium, Mahela Jayawardene attended the pre-match briefing for the 63rd IPL 2025 match between the Delhi Capitals and the Mumbai Indians. Unlike past matches, the emphasis was on the contest itself because of the possibility of rain disruptions based on the weather forecast.
The MI head coach acknowledged that the weather has been dangerous for the past few days during the pre-match briefing. Given the severity of the deluge, he questioned whether the additional hour that the BCCI had provided would benefit the sides. Everyone wanted to play instead of sit in the dugout, he said, speaking for everyone.
They made this decision as a group, and it’s clear that the weather has been endangering the majority of the games. I’m not sure if the extra hours will help if there is a lot of rain, but if it does, it helps. However, Jayawardene stated that everyone would prefer to play cricket than not play as long as we could obtain a match with the prolongation.
It’s better to have it in our control than anyone else’s: Mahela Jayawardene
The Sri Lankan talked about MI’s amazing comeback in the 18th league season, which saw them lose three of their first four games. He asserted that their winning run of six victories kept them in the competition. Jayawardene went on to say that the goal was to focus on each game individually and expressed satisfaction that they had control over their qualifying.
“After that run, we were always in the running for the playoffs. The boys have been looking forward to this, training has been going well, and we’re happy to get the tournament (again) underway and play cricket. Let’s focus on each match one at a time. At the news conference, Jayawardene stated, “It’s a great position to be here, and it’s within our control.”
The players were instructed to adhere to the procedures and routines they had established thus far in the tournament, he continued. According to the former captain of the T20 World Cup, MI deserved to be in their current place and believed that the players will give it their all for the rest of the competition.
“I told the boys to make sure we follow our procedures, routines, training methods, planning methods, and this tournament’s approach. “We’ve played good cricket to earn that position, and tomorrow we’ll go out and try to play our best game of cricket,” Jayawardene continued. “It’s better to have it under our control than anyone else’s and watch that situation.”
