After Suryakumar Yadav surpassed the star batsman’s run total during the Mumbai Indians’ match against the Rajasthan Royals in the current Indian Premier League, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar recently went to X to make a light-hearted jab at Virat Kohli. Compared to Kohli’s 443 runs in 10 innings, Suryakumar’s 48* (23) increased his total to 475 runs in 11 innings.
The well-known pundit claimed that Suryakumar’s Orange Cap was “extra bright” in a tweet that he posted. Furthermore, he made reference to his strike rate of 172.72, which was a subtle allusion to Kohli’s far lower strike rate of 138.87. His specific comment has sparked controversy online, with several people accusing Manjrekar of propagating needless pessimism.
Check his tweet below:
The orange cap is looking extra bright on this batter…most runs so far in the IPL, that too at a SR of 172!
Well done Surya!#IPLonJioStar #MI

All of the batters with a strike rate of 153 or higher at that stage of the season were included in the “batters that matter” list that Manjrekar recently shared on X.
Virat Kohli was not on the list, even though he was one of the IPL 2025’s top run scorers.
One of the primary reasons MI posted 217 on the board was Suryakumar’s blitzkrieg versus RR. In Jaipur, the franchise with the second-highest success rate went on to win by 100 runs. This season, MI’s vice captain has been playing at his best, and it is expected that he will do exceptionally well in the final stages of the competition.
RCB will take on Chennai Super Kings next. The clash at the Chinnaswamy presents a wonderful opportunity for the former RCB skipper to rise in the standings and overtake Suryakumar’s count. The match is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, at 7:30 pm (IST).
