Mark Chapman, the first ODI centurion, will not play in the third and final ODI between Pakistan (PAK) and New Zealand (NZ). After suffering a hamstring injury in the first ODI in Napier at McLean Park, the gifted middle-order batsman is still not fully recovered. After finally gaining some shape, a horrible turn of events occurred.
In the three-match ODI series, New Zealand dominated Pakistan even though they were without some of their best players. Notably, they took an unbeatable lead in the current series after winning the first two ODIs.
Even though the squad has a large list of injured players, they have put on a strong showing. In addition to Chapman, Tom Latham was also disqualified from the series because of a fracture he sustained during training. Chapman had just ended his century drought in the 50-over format with a remarkable 132 off 111 deliveries and was named player of the match, so this was a tragic turn of events for him.
Consequently, Ben Sears, a Kiwi pacer, took Mark Chapman position before the second ODI.
The Black Caps made a wise choice in this regard, as Sears went on to take five wickets during the match. Chapman’s chance to eventually make a name for himself in one-day cricket is also ruined by this.
A opportunity for a complete sweep in the last ODI
Speaking about the third ODI, it will take place at Mount Maunganui’s Bay Oval. Pakistan will only be fighting for pride in the forthcoming match, while New Zealand will have the opportunity to complete the series with a clean sweep. Going into the game, the team led by Michael Bracewell will feel confident because they are still playing at their best.
