Mark Nicholas, a former cricketer and English cricket commentator, has been chosen to serve as the illustrious Marylebone Cricket Club’s (MCC) new president.
The 65-year-old will take office on October 1, 2023, and serve as president for a period of one year. At the club’s annual general meeting earlier on Wednesday, May 3, the current president, Stephen Fry, announced his appointment.
Mark was chosen to be a member of the Marylebone Cricket Club in 1981. He represented Hampshire as a top-order batsman, medium-pace bowler, and captain of England A. He is one of the most famous faces in cricket television, hosting the coverage at the pinnacle of the sport everywhere. After leaving the cricket field, he entered the media.
After being chosen as the new MCC president, Mark claimed that in order to fully appreciate the significance of this honor and the privilege of receiving it, one only needs to glance over the list of previous MCC presidents. Additionally, he recalled going to a cricket game at Lord’s. He continued by saying that although he will initially have a better seat, he will always wish he was still playing.
“You just need to take a quick look at the list of previous MCC presidents to realize how much this honor represents and what an honor it is to earn it. I initially saw cricket at Lord’s from behind the outfield boundary rope. For the time being, I’ll have a more comfortable seat, but I’ll always wish I was still playing. What a game, cricket!” exclaimed Mark.
As much a cricket fan as anyone I know is Mark Nicholas: Fry
Stephen Fry, the president of the MCC, said that Nicholas is the most knowledgeable person he knows about cricket. He continued by saying that his intense love for the sport, combined with his background as a player, captain, and skilled commentator, would make him a superb match in his new position.
“Mark Nicholas has more of a passion for cricket than anyone I know. With one eye on heritage and tradition and the other on the future development and expansion of the game to which he has dedicated his life, he will be a magnificent president of MCC, according to Fry. He also has expertise as a player, captain, and expert observer.
