Experienced English batsman Joe Root expressed great admiration for talented batsman Ollie Pope following his impressive century against the Indian squad in the first Test of the current series. Ollie Pope remained undefeated with a score of 148 runs from 208 deliveries, providing hope for England. At the end of Day 3, the visitors had a total of 316 runs and a lead of 126 runs going into Day 4.
Regarding his performance, Joe Root praised Pope’s innings as a masterful display and admitted to being flabbergasted after witnessing such an impressive knock.
“Popey’s performance today is truly exceptional, demonstrating exemplary batting skills in these unfamiliar conditions as a foreign player. Despite being away from the game for a significant period due to a serious injury, he has managed to deliver an outstanding performance. I am at a loss for words,” Root stated according to Cricbuzz.
“It is one of the most exceptional performances I have ever witnessed,” stated Joe Root.
In addition, Root expressed his opinion that Pope’s knock was one of the finest he had ever witnessed. He also conveyed his joy for the centurion’s performance against India’s bowling attack.
“It is one of the most impressive performances I have ever witnessed.” I have observed a significant amount of cricket, actively participated in batting on the field alongside other exceptional players, and today’s experience was truly exceptional. I am quite delighted for him. I didn’t mind when he asserted his dominance over me tonight by asking ‘can you handle the press’ as the vice-captain. “The ability to control the field in the manner it did during that attack, on that particular surface, to demonstrate exceptional levels of focus, resolve, physical fitness, and expertise, all combined, was tremendous,” Root remarked.
