Sunrisers Hyderabad, the runners-up in the 2024 Indian Premier League, have had a difficult start to the current season. Out of eight games, they have only managed to win two. In order to qualify for the playoffs, SRH will need to win every game they have left and pray for favourable outcomes in other games.
Because of the way they’ve been losing to opponents this season, former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden blamed SRH’s poor IPL 2025 performance on a developing sense of self-doubt in the team.
“A basic lack of confidence is the most straightforward explanation. Recovering is difficult when you start losing the way SRH has. At the moment, they are far from being benchmark batters, as they formerly were. “This has caused problems in the middle order,” Hayden said on JioHotstar.
In addition, Matthew Hayden believed that the Orange Army needed to find their winning formula again rather than obsessing over their playing combinations.
“They must quit overanalysing and concentrate on their own strategy. At the moment, SRH is pursuing this competition, seeking combinations, and even pursuing the form that formerly characterised their potent batting lineup,” he continued.
On Wednesday, April 23, SRH suffered their most recent defeat at the hands of the Mumbai Indians in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. They were asked to bat first and plodded to a shockingly low score of 143/8. MI responded by winning the match by a margin of seven wickets and twenty-six deliveries.
With 71 runs off 44 deliveries, Heinrich Klaasen, the wicketkeeper-batter, led the hosts in scoring. Harshal Patel stood out as the bowling unit’s most notable performer. Despite going wicketless, he only gave up 21 runs in his three overs.
SRH next face Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, April 25. The Pat Cummins-led side will be aiming to get their floundering campaign back on track with a win against a struggling CSK outfit. With both sides desperate for a win, the fixture is anticipated to be a cracker of a contest.
