Former England white-ball coach Matthew Mott has been named assistant coach of the Delhi Capitals ahead of the exciting Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season. The 51-year-old Australian will be part of the team’s redesigned coaching staff, which also includes bowling coach Munaf Patel, director of cricket Venugopal Rao, and new head coach Hemang Badani.
Mott began his decades-long cricket career as a first-class player for Victoria and Queensland. After that, he began teaching, initially in the domestic circuits of Australia and England, before assuming the well-known position of head coach for the Australian women’s cricket team from 2015 to 2020. Mott guided Australia to four Ashes series wins, two T20 World Cups, and one ODI World Cup during his tenure.
His success in women’s cricket led to his appointment as England men’s white-ball coach in 2022, where he led the squad to a T20 World Cup victory in Australia before resigning in July 2023. In addition, Mott has experience with the IPL, having worked as an assistant coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2008 and 2009 inaugural seasons.
“Repeatedly winning and ready for more. Through their official ‘X’ handle, DC stated, “Welcome to Dilli, Matthew Mott,” and notified the fans of the latest development.

Ricky Ponting leaves the Delhi Capitals, and new coaching is in place for the 2025 IPL season.
DC wants to improve its backroom setup following a dismal IPL 2024 season in which they placed sixth. Ricky Ponting was replaced as head coach in October by Hemang Badani, a former cricket player for India. In addition, the Capitals replaced James Hopes as bowling coach with Munaf Patel.
The 2020 edition finalists, who have not yet taken home an IPL championship, have also made roster changes. The squad has not yet announced their season-long captain, despite adding KL Rahul, Harry Brook, Faf du Plessis, and Mitchell Starc in the mega-auction.
