The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officially unveiled the “Rohit Sharma” stand at the storied Wankhede Stadium on Friday, May 16. Two additional stands, named for Sharad Pawar and Ajit Wadekar, were also unveiled by the cricket organisation that same day.
The late MCA president Amol Kale, who died during the 2024 T20 World Cup, has been honoured with a new name for the MCA office lounge at Wankhede Stadium.
The stand’s renaming in honour of India’s winning T20 World Cup skipper, Rohit Sharma, was revealed earlier last month.
“Wankhede has always held great personal significance for me. I started to dream about my career in professional cricket there, had some of the most memorable experiences of my life, and was always uplifted by the Mumbai crowd’s enthusiasm.” The Rohit

“To have a stand named after me at this iconic venue is overwhelming. It is a tribute to the dreams, support, and milestones that have shaped my journey and I am deeply thankful to MCA for this honour,” he added.
MCA’s current president, Ajinkya Naik, also revealed that it is a ‘proud’ moment for the MCA to felicitate such iconic figures.
“Dedicating the stands and the MCA Office Lounge to these iconic figures is our way of embedding their legacy into the very fabric of Wankhede Stadium. Each of them has played a transformative role in shaping Mumbai cricket’s identity and progress. As we honour their immense contributions, with Wankhede celebrating 50 glorious years, we reaffirm our commitment to preserving and celebrating the heritage of this historic ground that continues to write new history for cricket,” Naik said.
