Mehidy opened up about his connection with Shanto and how the captain’s position should be respected within a team when he was questioned in an interview if he confronts competition from Shanto inside the team.
Eight of the top teams in international cricket will compete in the Champions Trophy 2025, which gets underway on February 19. It would be Bangladesh’s fourth time participating in this forthcoming competition.
The Bangla Tigers advanced to the tournament’s semi-finals for the first time in the most recent Champions Trophy. The club does have several talented players in the lineup, despite their lackluster ODI performances this season. Although Mehidy Hasan Miraz, one of the team’s most reliable all-rounders, has experience managing the team, Najmul Hossain Shanto, whose leadership skills and consistency are being questioned, will lead the team.
We have known each other since our U-15 days. He played for me for seven or eight years in addition to one U-19 World Cup. It’s all about a team game, but someone has to be the “captain” to march all over the field. Furthermore, nothing is larger than the nation. I have to respect his position even though he is a buddy of mine. In the changing room, Tamim bhai said something that I found endearing. According to Cricbuzz, Mehidy Hasan Miraz stated, “He specifically told me that everyone wants to do captaincy because it’s a different experience and environment, but at the same time, everyone should respect the captain’s position.”
“There shouldn’t be any animosity, regardless of disagreement or anything else. He most likely shared this based on his personal experience. That was significant since Shanto and I had a close friendship and mutual understanding. This is a complete misunderstanding. He assisted me while I was his captain,” Mehidy continued.
I must first make mental preparations: Mehidy
On February 20, the Bangladeshi team will meet India in their Champions Trophy opener in Dubai. Many people are interested in the situation. Mehidy expressed his opinions on the subject, stating that although the circumstances for the spinners will be difficult, he is confident because he has played at the Dubai International Stadium before.
“Very challenging for spinners, and I need to mentally prepare myself in advance.” Pakistan will be really difficult. However, it will assist that I have expertise playing Tests in Rawalpindi. There, I gained some insight on the wicket’s behavior. I’ve also performed in Dubai before. These should be helpful,” Mehidy said.
