On Thursday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced Mehidy Hasan Miraz as Najmul Hossain Shanto’s deputy for the 2025 Champions Trophy. To get ready for their tournament opener against India, the runners-up from the last edition, the complete Bangladeshi team will leave for Dubai tonight.
Mehidy has participated in 103 ODIs for Bangladesh overall. While the full-time captain was out with a groin strain, he recently led the team during their tour of the West Indies.
During the T20I series, Litton Das was the captain, but Mehidy Hasan Miraz took the lead in the ODIs and Test matches.
In addition to winning the ODI series handily and convincingly winning the T20Is by a score of 0–3, Bangladesh proceeded to draw the Test series.
With Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed joining the team for their match against India in Dubai, the pace-bowling unit will be considerably strengthened.
“Khale Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud, two defenders, will go to Dubai on Saturday to practice with the Bangladesh Champions Trophy team. According to a statement issued by the BCB on Thursday, “The bowlers will go back home after Bangladesh’s tournament opener against India in Dubai on February 20.”
Bangladesh has participated in five seasons of the prestigious ODI event out of the previous eight. They hosted the first competition, which was then known as the Wills International Cup in 1998, although they did not participate. Their best result came in the 2017 edition, when they advanced to the competition’s semifinals. Bangladesh is grouped with New Zealand, India, and Pakistan in Group A.
The team has lost all four of the ODIs that Miraz has led Bangladesh to date. For Bangladesh to have any chance of making it to the knockout stages, Mehidy will have to live up to the high expectations placed on him.
