Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will miss the next three-match T20s against the Netherlands after leaving the national team to care for his ailing wife. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) revealed on Tuesday that the 28-year-old has been given leave from August 20 to September 4, excluding him from the series, which begins later this month in Sylhet.
The Netherlands series is viewed as part of the team’s preparation for the Asia Cup 2025, which kicks off on September 9 in the UAE. The series versus the Dutch is expected to be significant for squad testing and fine-tuning combinations.
“Mehidy took vacation from August 20 to September 4 to be with his wife, who is not doing well. As a result, he will not fly to Sylhet for the training camp ahead of the series against the Netherlands,” a BCB spokesman said.
The Netherlands team to arrive in Bangladesh on August 26.
Miraz had been part of Bangladesh’s fitness camp in Dhaka, which was to prepare players for both the Netherlands T20Is and the Asia Cup. His last international appearance came during Bangladesh’s T20I home series against Pakistan.
However, with the squad shifting to Sylhet on Tuesday evening for a skill-based preparation camp, Bangladesh will have to regroup quickly in his absence. The final squad for the series is yet to be announced, and his replacement is uncertain at this point.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands squad is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on August 26. They will undergo three training days in Sylhet before the series begins. All three matches will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, with the first game scheduled for August 30, followed by games on September 1 and September 3.
