Mehidy Hasan Miraz played off similarities to the great Shakib Al Hasan following Bangladesh’s seven-wicket defeat against South Africa in the first Test match on Thursday, October 24 in Dhaka. Because they are both superb all-round players who have led Bangladesh to historic victories throughout their careers, the 27-year-old has frequently been compared to Shakib.
Mehidy countered that since he has only lately begun to play well for his team, it is incorrect to compare him to the more seasoned Shakib. Shakib batted higher up the order and did well from the beginning of his career, according to the Khulna native.
“Everyone says that I’ll replace Shakib bhai. He is a legend who has accomplished a great deal in the past 17 years. Higher up the order, he batted. Since the beginning of his career, he has been scoring runs. Over the past year or two, I’ve started to score runs on a regular basis. At No. 7 or 8, I bat. I’m in my place, and Shakib is in his. According to, Mehidy told the reporters, “I think it’s best not to compare us.”
Following the series against South Africa, Shakib Al Hasan is scheduled to retire from the Test format. In Dhaka, Mehidy got two wickets in the second innings after scoring 97 in the first. He was unable to save his team’s victory, though, as the hosts fell down by seven wickets. After earning Player of the Series in Bangladesh, Mehidy did not enjoy his time in India. In the second and final Test, when Bangladesh aims to tie the series, his batsmanship will be vital.
For comparison, Mehidy has amassed 1799 runs in 48 Test matches at an average of 23.36. The off-spinner has collected 185 wickets at 32.62 with the ball. Shakib, on the other hand, has 4609 runs at 37.78 after playing in 71 Test matches for the Bangla Tigers. His bowling statistics, which show that he has taken 246 wickets at 31.72, are equally impressive.
I usually make an effort to relish stressful situations: Mehidy Hasan Miraz
Mehidy, particularly with the bat, has saved Bangladesh from danger on multiple occasions. In the second Test in Chattogram, he will search for more of the same. He talked about his attitude when attempting to diffuse heated situations with his team.
“I constantly make an effort to relish stressful situations. For me, it is a chance to become a hero. Taking advantage of opportunities makes me joyful. I’m in a challenging position when I bat. I am aware that the squad could perform well if I bat well from my position.
