In Tuesday’s match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) maintained composure till the very end to secure their fourth IPL 2025 victory. They protected their score of 204/9. Even though the final score put KKR in a strong position, the host team put up a fight before Sunil Narine’s bowling and captaincy ended the match for the visitors.
After being put in to bat, KKR came out with a definite purpose, scoring their second-best score of the season with 79 runs in the powerplay. Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz got off to a fantastic start with a quick 48-run partnership off just 18 balls. Despite being fired, Ajinkya Rahane continued to assault.
As soon as Vipraj Nigam fired Narine, Axar Patel took advantage of the situation. He quickly dismissed Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer, which caused KKR to collapse in the middle overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh added 61 runs in an effort at a comeback. On a batting-friendly wicket, KKR finished at 204/9 after managing just 45 runs in their final five overs due to Andre Russell’s inability to provide the necessary push in the closing stages of the innings.
Abishek Porel fell early in the Delhi Capitals’ reply, and Karun Nair followed shortly after, giving them a rocky start. With tremendous backing from Patel, Faf du Plessis blasted a superb half-century while holding one end. Targeting the KKR spinners, the pair put DC back in the game, with Axar blasting three sixes off Narine.
However, in the fourteenth over, the game changed. After Rahane was injured, Narine took the initiative and returned to the attack. After hitting twice in a single over to remove Axar and Tristan Stubbs, he returned the following over to dismiss du Plessis, who was well-set. The defending champions successfully defended the target to record a 14-run victory and halt their two-match losing streak, despite some late hitting from Vipraj Nigam and extending the game to the last over.
