Punjab Kings (PBKS) brilliantly confirmed their berth in IPL 2025 Qualifier 1 by defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) by seven wickets in Match 69 at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Chasing a target of 185, PBKS made the run chase look easy, owing to an outstanding 109-run stand between Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis, and the team will now face its opponent on Friday, May 30 at their home field in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
After Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Prabhsimran Singh early on, it appeared if MI were on their way to another victory. However, Inglis and Arya kept the innings stable. The Australian batsman hit a half-century off just 29 balls, and Arya followed with a fifty off 27 deliveries.
Notably, Hardik Pandya dropped Arya at 37, and he took advantage of the opportunity. The Southpaw eventually dropped for 62, and Inglis returned to the dressing room after a 42-ball 73. PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer ensured there were no challenges and led his team to victory, guaranteeing a top-two finish and a direct berth into the IPL final.
Earlier, MI’s innings was underpinned by Suryakumar Yadav’s 39-ball 57, his 14th successive score of 25 or more in T20s, as they posted 184. After losing early wickets, the 33-year-old steadied the batting and had backing from Pandya (26 off 15) and Naman Dhir in the last overs.
PBKS bowlers kept MI’s total under 200, with Arshdeep Singh’s final over going for three runs and Marco Jansen taking two crucial wickets near the end. With this win, PBKS is guaranteed a top-two finish and will compete in Qualifier 1. Meanwhile, MI are due to appear in the Eliminator. The final playoff spots will be determined during Tuesday’s match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants. A win for RCB will set up a matchup with PBKS in Qualifier 1.

Just realized Mumbai Indians haven’t won a single game against qualified teams this season. Lost twice against GT and one against RCB.
