In Match 22 of the IPL 2025, Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 18 runs, giving the five-time winners their fourth straight loss of the year. As Punjab scored 219/6 in Mullanpur, Priyansh Arya was the night’s highlight, smashing a spectacular 103 off just 42 balls. Chennai finished with 201/5 in their 20 overs, losing the match despite being very much in it until the final few overs. Devon Conway and MS Dhoni put in a lot of effort, but Punjab’s bowlers maintained composure to win and move up the standings.
Punjab lost three wickets in five overs after choosing to bat first. But with seven fours and nine sixes to finish the innings, the Southpaw held one side of the end and hit the joint-fourth quickest century in IPL history. Punjab reached the 150-run milestone in 13 overs thanks to his innings.
While wickets fell at the other end, including those of Shreyas Iyer, Prabhsimran Singh, and Glenn Maxwell, Arya kept smashing the Chennai bowlers. Once he departed in the 14th over, Shashank Singh (52* off 36) and Marco Jansen (34* off 19) took the onus on themselves to help Punjab finish with a defendable target.
Chasing 220, Chennai had a bright start as Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway became the first CSK opening pair to survive the powerplay this season. Ravindra made a quickfire 36, while Conway, who retired out in the 18th over, held one end with 69 off 49. Shivam Dube chipped in with a 27-ball 42, but CSK’s scoring rate went low after his dismissal. When MS Dhoni joined Conway, CSK needed 59 off 18 balls. While Dhoni came up with a handy cameo with a 12-ball 27, his dismissal in the final over quashed CSK’s hopes. For Punjab, Lockie Ferguson picked up two crucial wickets while Yash Thakur and Glenn Maxwell chipped in with one each
