On Wednesday, April 2, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans (GT) handed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) their first loss in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
On Wednesday, Gujarat chose to field first after winning the toss. Virat Kohli was out of the game when Arshad Khan struck in the second over. Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj in the third over, opening his account. Before being fired by Siraj, who was playing at his best against his old team, Phil Salt led a perilous life.
As RCB fell to 42/4, Rajat Patidar was out in the seventh over. With a crucial 52-run partnership, Jitesh Sharma and Liam Livingstone kept the ship afloat. But the former was unable to take advantage of a promising knock. In the 15th over, RCB lost six wickets for 104 runs, and Krunal Pandya was unable to make an impact either.
Livingstone made the most of his lifelines by hitting a 54 off 40 balls. Tim David took RCB to 169/8 at the close of the innings with a vital hit of 32 off 18 balls. Siraj took three wickets for 19 runs in his four overs, making him the best bowler. Sai Kishore, meanwhile, made an impression with his two-for.
Gujarat responded steadily, with Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill playing Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar cautiously. Though it wasn’t as alarming as in the first innings, there was movement for the seamers.
Before getting removed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the fifth over, Shubman had a calm start. With a casual demeanour, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler led GT forward. They punched the wind out of RCB’s sails with a partnership of 75 runs from 47 deliveries.
One run short of a half-century, the southpaw left in the thirteenth over. As the Impact Player, Sherfane Rutherford helped the Titans win with an undefeated 63-run combination with Buttler. Buttler blasted five fours and six sixes to finish undefeated at 73 off 39 balls. Gujarat needed just 13 deliveries and eight wickets to reach the mark.
