At the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday, March 30, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six runs in a thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match.
After winning the toss, Ruturaj Gaikwad asked the Royals to bat first on what appeared to be a good surface. With a boundary off the first ball from Khaleel Ahmed, Yashasvi Jaiswal gave the home team a great start. Two balls later, though, the southpaw was out. Nitish Rana was imperious when he batted at number three.
As the Royals finished the powerplay at 79/1, he sped to a half-century off just 21 balls. Sanju Samson got off to a good start but was unable to build on it. The hot Noor Ahmed got rid of him for a 20 off 16 balls. Rana went on his rampage, hitting 10 fours and five sixes to score 81 off just 36 balls. After Ravichandran Ashwin spotted him coming down the track and sent it wide, MS Dhoni eventually stumped him. After Rana missed the ball completely, the former captain of India removed the bails.
Although Riyan Parag played a solid knock of 37 off 28, he was unable to supply the decisive push towards the conclusion of the innings. Additionally, Shimron Hetmyer failed to timing the major hits and ended up dying at 19. After 12 overs, RR scored 129/3. They ended up at 182/9 after 20 overs, though, after managing just 53/6 in the last eight. Matheesha Pathirana, Khaleel, and Noor each took two wickets for the opposition. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, meanwhile, both contributed a wicket.
With a maiden in the opening over and the dismissal of the in-form Rachin Ravindra, Jofra Archer gave Rajasthan the perfect start in the second innings. Rahul Tripathi attempted to grab some runs by battling it out in the middle. However, after making 23 off 19 balls, Wanindu Hasaranga left the crease.
Shivam Dube appeared to be doing well during his brief stint at the crease, but he was dismissed by a spectacular catch made by Parag off Hasaranga’s bowling. Gaikwad was responsible for taking his team home, thus Vijay Shankar also left on a cheap note. However, the CSK captain, who scored 63 off 44 balls, was dismissed by Hasaranga’s second strike. With four overs and figures of 4/35, the Sri Lankan spinner concluded his spell.
When CSK needed to score 54 off 25, Dhoni entered at number seven to join Jadeja in the middle. With Jadeja by their side, the CSK supporters were anticipating Dhoni’s burning of the stage. In the final over, when CSK needed 20 runs, the former captain of India smashed a couple of boundaries.
A wide was bowled by Sandeep Sharma to begin the over. He didn’t allow the pressure get to him, either, as Hetmyer made a brilliant diving catch at deep mid-wicket to send the stalwart back to the hut after dismissing Dhoni off the over’s first legitimate delivery. CSK ended up scoring 176/6 in their 20 overs.
