At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday, March 23, the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) saw a high-scoring match between the hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
In his debut game as captain of Rajasthan, Riyan Parag won the toss and chose to field first on a belter surface. Hyderabad benefited from this choice as their openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, destroyed the opposition bowlers throughout the park.
Abhishek was dismissed for 24 (11) after failing to build on his blazing start. The Rajasthan bowlers, who had nothing going for them, were attacked by Head and Ishan Kishan. Even though the outfield was outstanding, Rajasthan’s performance on the field was mediocre.
For the second wicket, Head and Kishan combined for 85 runs off of 39 balls. Kishan and Nitish Kumar Reddy put together a 72-run partnership off 29 deliveries after Head left for 67 (31), which kept the scoreboard moving quickly. Prior to Heinrich Klaasen arriving at the crease, Reddy was removed for a 30 off 15 balls. Before being Sandeep Sharma’s first victim of the match, the South African wicketkeeper-batter blasted to 34 off 14 balls.
In the penultimate over, Kishan scored his first IPL century. In the end, he hit 11 fours and six sixes while remaining undefeated at 106 off 47 balls. After 20 overs, Hyderabad’s final score was 286/6.
Rajasthan was forced to attack the bowlers right away in their reply. But their momentum was hampered when they lost the wickets of Nitish Rana, Parag, and Yashasvi Jaiswal during the powerplay. The Impact Player, Sanju Samson, looked flawless as he performed some stunning strokes. When Dhruv Jurel batted at number five, he chased the intimidating goal without displaying any symptoms of nervousness.
Before Samson was removed for 66 (37) in the fourteenth over, the two wicketkeeper-batters combined for 111 runs off 60 balls. Mohammed Shami had given him a reprieve earlier in the innings, but he was unable to take advantage of it. As Sunrisers started to feel victorious, Jurel also left in the next over for 70 (35).
Shimron Hetmyer and Shubham Dubey delivered some lustful strikes to move Rajasthan closer to the goal. The Royals were able to narrow the loss gap thanks to their 80-run partnership off 34 balls. Dubey was still undefeated with 34 off 11 deliveries, while Hetmyer was removed in the last over for a 42 off 23 balls. Despite the odds being against them, Rajasthan put up a great fight, finishing on 242/6 in their 20 overs.
