Royal Challengers Bengaluru won Match 1 of the 2025 Indian Premier League by seven wickets with 22 deliveries to spare at Eden Gardens against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday, March 22. IPL 2025 got off to a flying start, with RCB claiming their 11th win in their first game in IPL history.
KKR scored 174 runs, with captain Ajinkya Rahane leading the way with 56. Sunil Narine made another appearance up top, scoring 44 off 26 deliveries. They scored 103 runs for the second wicket. Their collaboration appeared rather frightening to the tourists.
However, no one else clicked for the hosts. Angkrish Raghuvanshi lasted 22 deliveries and scored 30 runs. The combination of Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, and Ramandeep Singh produced only 22 runs from as many deliveries. Krunal Pandya, along with Josh Hazlewood, was RCB’s best bowler, giving 29 runs and picking up three wickets.
In the run chase, Phil Salt and Virat Kohli opened the batting with a flurry of mesmerising strokes. In no time, RCB had reached 80 without losing a wicket in their pursuit of the 175-run objective. It was the team’s second-highest powerplay total in IPL history. Salt left just as the opening stand was about to surpass 100 runs.
However, Kohli didn’t stop there. After Devdutt Padikkal was removed for a run-a-ball 10, he teamed up with skipper Rajat Patidar to demolish the KKR bowling lineup. Patidar ended up delivering a significant lift to the innings. Liam Livingstone’s late strikes helped RCB win by a commanding margin at the end. Only Narine (1/27) conceded less than ten per over.
