The Maharashtra chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has committed to providing land for the construction of a new stadium in Mumbai that can hold up to one lakh people at a time. The Maharashtra chief minister recalled the suggestion he was asked to make with Amol Kale, the MCA president at the time, and Ajinkya Naik, the present MCA president, and asserted that he had fulfilled it.
When part of the stands at the Wankhede Stadium were renamed after the well-known cricket players, Fadnavis spoke to the crowd. Stands bearing the names of Sharad Pawar, Ajit Wadekar, and Rohit Sharma were dedicated in their honour. Fadnavus promised during his address to supply the land needed to construct the new cricket ground.
“Amol Kale, the late MCA president, and Ajinkya Naik, the current MCA president, approached me last year to beg that the MCA construct a new stadium with a minimum capacity of one million people. On Friday, May 16, Fadnavis renamed the stands at the Wankhede Stadium. “And now, I’m assuring Ajinkya that if you come with a proposal, then the Maharashtra government will give you an appropriate good piece of land for the MCA to build its own big stadium which can sit 1,00,000 spectators,” he said.
Maharashtra and Mumbai are home to ardent cricket enthusiasts: Devendra Fadnavis
The chief minister of Maharashtra reminded everyone of the important role that his state and the capital city play in cricket. By 2029, the association will have celebrated its 100th anniversary of founding, and he expressed his hope that the stadium would be finished by then. He committed to offering whatever support required to construct the enormous cricket stadium.
The states of Mumbai and Maharashtra are home to ardent cricket fans. The impact Mumbai has made to (global) cricket is well known. It will be the MCA’s 100th anniversary in four years. We ought to have our new stadium completed by then. Additionally, we would provide whatever the MCA requires to construct that stadium,” Fadnavis continued.
Only a few cities have three top-notch cricket stadiums, including Mumbai. Although Wankhede and Brabourne Stadium are only 800 meters apart, Navi Mumbai also boasts a venue known as the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy Ground, which has been used as a home for India Women’s matches.
