The only factor separating the Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on the IPL 2025 points table is their net run rate. In their nine games, both clubs have won five of them, and MI has won four straight.
The fact that the victor of this match has a mathematical chance to move to the top of the points table even if MI is in fourth place and LSG is in sixth is likely evidence of how fierce the competition is in the tournament.
In their most recent game, MI defeated SRH in Hyderabad. SRH appeared down and out after Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar both claimed two wickets during the powerplay. Boult claimed additional wickets in the closing stages, but Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar set up a record partnership to keep SRH alive. Suryakumar Yadav completed the simple chase to give MI their fourth straight victory, while Rohit Sharma scored more than 70 for the second time in a row.
In their final game, LSG lost badly to DC in Lucknow. Mukesh Kumar destroyed the rest of the middle order after shattering a solid opening partnership between Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram. LSG concluded with a disappointing score, but Ayush Badoni kept the middle order afloat. Axar Patel’s cameo helped DC bring down the score, which was supported by fifties from Abishek Porel and KL Rahul.
In addition, this game is a rematch, with LSG winning the last meeting in Lucknow. Once again, Marsh and Markram had a solid opening pair, but Hardik Pandya’s fifer took over the middle order. The majority of the damage control at the end was done by Pandya. Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir kept the chase going when the openers left early, but they were killed in the process. Despite the fact that all of the LSG bowlers except Digvesh Rathi were under pressure, Tilak Varma’s struggles proved a significant problem. Even though Pandya showed up with the bat, MI was unable to win.
