India’s opening Test against England at Headingley concluded on a negative note, with the hosts winning by five wickets while chasing 371 runs. After the game, former England captain Michael Vaughan and ex-India opener Wasim Jaffer, who have a light-hearted social media friendship, got into another round of banter.
Michael Vaughan poked fun at Jaffer after England seized a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
“Good evening, @WasimJaffer14. “I hope you’re okay… #1-0,” Vaughan tweeted. The former Indian opener praised the new squad under Shubman Gill and congratulated the England team on their victory.
However, Jaffer expressed confidence that the team would recover. “I’m glad a young Indian team got you concerned like this. Enjoy the victory, Michael; we’ll be back. He wrote, “#ENGvIND.” To which the former English captain replied, “Could be 4-0 now Wasim.”

Vaughan also went to X to mock India’s poor fielding in the Test, implying that he might become their fielding coach. He was referring to the several lost catches that enabled Ben Duckett to score a match-winning 149.
“I just wanted to let you know that I have offered myself as a fielding coach in India. He tweeted, “My academy does a roaring trade.”
Duckett’s effort earned him Player of the Match honours and provided the hosts a much-needed advantage in the five-match series. India will suffer the consequences of a game that they should have won. Four of their players scored centuries, propelling them to a commanding lead in both innings. However, collapses of 7/41 and 6/31 in both innings, combined with poor catches and a subpar bowling unit, cost them the game.
